Explore the Message of the Good News of Easter

What is Easter?

Every year, at Easter, Christians celebrate the good news of Jesus’ sacrificial love for the whole world. Because Jesus died on the cross and rose back to life, he offers us hope, healing, salvation and peace. This is why we believe it’s good news.

Easter is celebrated by over 2.3 billion Christians in the world. For 40 days beginning with Ash Wednesday (Feb 18, 2025).  It’s characterized by putting ashes on the forehead, symbolizing human mortality and the need for reconciliation with God. During the season of Lent, Christians anticipate the death and resurrection of Jesus by reflecting on his teachings and asking Him to deepen their own understandings and lived experiences with Him. Christians will often give up something in order to be reminded of what Jesus gave up for them.

Christians anticipate the death and resurrection of Jesus in a time of Lent. This ends on Palm Sunday which is the start of the Holy Week.

This video shares the story of  Jesus, his teachings, death and resurrection.

While Jesus lived on Earth, he shared this good news with people from all walks of life. This includes people considered outcasts or unworthy; people who society would normally reject. Jesus welcomed them all, and the message is still the same today.

No matter your journey or situation, no matter what others think of you, Jesus wants to give you “gladness instead of sorrow… victory, joy and praise instead of depression and sadness” (Isaiah 61:3, The Voice Bible translation).

As followers of Jesus, Christians, we are motivated to love others the way Jesus loves us. This is what it means to provide compassionate Christian care at Menno Place – it is done with the heart and through the example of Jesus and how He loved others.
