Bas Kervel – Manager of Environmental Services and Material Management

Bas has had many different positions in his 17 years at Menno Place, and now as the Manager of Environmental Services, he is a crucial part of making this place function.

Today we asked him a couple questions to get to know him better!

Q: What training did you receive that helps you in your job at Menno Place?

A: Power Engineering, Management, and Supervising Courses

Q: What are some small things that make your day better?

A: Coffee in the morning puts a smile on my face. Food at the Fireside Cafe makes my afternoon and seeing my family after work gives me joy.

Q: What is something you’re interested in that most people haven’t heard of?

A: I’m interested in living a subsistence lifestyle in the bush. All though I have a strong urge to live that lifestyle I think I would probably starve and have to retreat back to the grocery store.

Q: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

A: If I could live anywhere I would live by a remote lake in a tiny cabin.

Q: Who makes you laugh the hardest? Why?

A: My Son Kyle makes me laugh the hardest. He’s the funniest kid. He has this baby voice he uses to talk sometimes. It’s hilarious.

Q: What’s your favourite family tradition?

A: Dutch soup and buns after church. Yummmm!

Q: What is your favourite thing about working at Menno Place?

A: I have a few favourite things about working at Menno Place but my absolute favourite is making the environment better for the residents. It’s very rewarding to hear positive feedback and excitement from the residents and families.
